How to do a full restore on an OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid drive

There are many choices in backup solutions, and this is by no means the only solution out there. We include it here because it is a known method that we have used in our labs to back up and restore systems running with the OCZ RevoDrive Hybrid drive.

Time Commitment

Creation of the bootable USB drive takes less than 10 minutes. The restore itself can range from a few minutes to several hours, depending on how big the image is. This does not include the time it takes to download the necessary software, which can range from a few minutes to a few hours, depending on your internet connection speed.

Preparation

  1. Make sure you have the most recent RevoDrive Hybrid drivers installed.

  2. Download the Paragon Backup & Recovery Home software, including the installation software and the Boot Media Builder. You will need the $40 version of the software, as the free / demo version does not include the Boot Media Builder, which is needed for this to work. (You can sometimes find discount coupons online.)

  3. Download Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for windows 7 and burn a DVD from the ISO file.

  4. Install AIK from the disk you burned.

  5. Install Paragon Backup & Recovery Home.

  6. Install Paragon Boot Media Builder.

  7. Create an image with the Paragon backup software. (You can store this on a network drive, if you choose.)

  8. Create your recovery boot media.

    1. Launch Paragon Boot Media Builder.

    2. Follow the Paragon Boot Media Builder instructions.

    3. If you stored the image on a network drive, provide the network info.

Performing a Full Restore

  1. Boot off the USB you created for the RevoDrive Hybrid drive.

  2. Choose the location you saved the image.

  3. Choose the Toshiba drive to restore to.

  4. Restore the files.

  5. Dataplex will come up as being disabled. Uninstall Dataplex and re-install the latest version of Dataplex.

  6. You should be back in business.
