Software Compatibility

While we are not able to test every software package out there for compatibility with Dataplex, there are a few pieces of incompatible software (or software features) that have come to our attention that do not work well with Dataplex. The list below highlights a few of the better-known ones.

  • Windows 8
Most users who install Windows 8 in Compatibility Mode have had positive success. However, we have noticed that all users who attempt to do so using an AMD SATA port in RAID mode run into an issue where the system will encounter an error upon the second reboot. We hope to have a fix for the AMD/RAID issue in the February 2013 time-frame.

  • Most Full Drive Encryption Software (with the exception of BitLocker)
Most software that provides "full drive encryption" relies on boot block modification, the same way Dataplex does, and are therefore not compatible with Dataplex. When this conflict occurs, the system typically refuses to boot. You will need to disable either Dataplex or your full drive encryption software in order to return to normal.

BitLocker, however, appears to be smarter than most full drive encryption software about how it manages boot block modifications, and is therefore able to coexist with Dataplex without issue. You may see notifications when Dataplex and BitLocker are both modifying the boot block, but it should not impact functionality.

  • TrueCrypt
TrueCrypt offers a variety of encryption options: file-level, folder-level, volume-level, or full drive encryption. We are not aware of any conflicts with Dataplex in the first three modes, but full drive encryption causes issues for the reasons previously stated. If you wish to use full drive encryption in TrueCrypt, you must disable Dataplex first.

  • TeraCopy
TeraCopy has its own separate caching feature, which can conflict with Dataplex when copying large video files. If you turn off TeraCopy's caching feature, these issues should be eliminated.

  • Acronis
Acronis has a "Try and Decide" feature that is disabled by default. This feature conflicts with Dataplex, so you will need to disable Dataplex before you enable it, should you choose to use it.

  • Todo Backup
Todo Backup has a "Snapshot" feature that is disabled by default. This feature conflicts with Dataplex, so you will need to disable Dataplex before you enable it, should you choose to use it. If you enable it before disabling Dataplex, you will need to go through the Todo recovery process to get things running again, so be sure to disable Dataplex first before experimenting with "Snapshot."
